Summary:

The Volunteer and Donations Hotline is up and running. The telephone number is:
1(800) 354-3571 or 1-800 FL-HELP1. Operational daily between 8AM and 8PM.

Meteorology: Watching a system that has formed in the Caribbean. In addition to hurricane response, monitoring of wildfire outbreaks, as conditions for wildfires are high from Gainesville to N. Florida. There have been some outbreaks of wildfires in the Panhandle area.

Level 1 OPS continue. The mission is not to meet, but to exceed demand. 365 trucks of product were on ground in first 24 hours. However, we are dealing with a wide swath, east to west, and large area of impact.  Recon will travel into hazardous areas today to assure there are no isolated pockets of people.

Logistics: 152 trucks of water, 142 trucks of ice, and 71 trucks of food delivered to PODS for distribution.72 trucks of water shipped. 56 enroute to Lakeland LSA and 16 received at West Palm Beach LSA. 28 truckloads of water remain in storage.  500 truckloads of ice ordered from IAP, expect delivery in 3 days. 4 truckloads of baby food being distributed as needed. 50,000 USDA meals shipped to date.

At this time, 269 trucks of water, 232 trucks of ice, 52 trucks of food and 3 trucks of tarps are in route to impact areas. Shelf-stable meals are in short supply.

Shelters: Status remains approximately the same. Kitchens are up and feeding. 13 special needs shelters are open with 939 persons housed. 34 standard shelters are open, housing 4068 evacuees.

Fuel: No lack of fuel at retail outlets, but electrical outages will severely impact fuel distribution. Generators are in short supply.

Volunteers are being mobilized to process 9 truckloads of bulk plastic sheeting into roof-sized units. A Volunteer Reception Center in Ft. Lauderdale and Stuart will be open from 9AM to 4PM starting 10/26/05.

Department of Education: 12 schools districts south of I-4 corridor closed.

Dept of Children & Families, Dept of Elder Affairs, Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) monitoring situation and preparing as appropriate.

EYW (Key West) airport is closed, and all others are open. Port Everglades and Port of Miami are closed.

Last night, Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties were added/approved for PA via the Presidential Disaster declaration.

Received Presidential Disaster Declaration [FEMA-1609-DR-FL] for Individual Assistance (IA), Public Assistance (PA) and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). IA = Collier, Lee and Monroe counties.

HMGP=State-wide.

PA = Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Osceola, Palm Beach, Polk, St. Lucie and Sarasota counties for Categories A & B [Debris Removal and Emergency Protective Measures].
