Daily EOC Briefing 10/31/2005

Summary:

No meteorology report today; we don’t anticipate any hurricane activity for at least 4-5 days (joke).

Area of operations remains unchanged since Friday. Current considerations are: transitioning into recovery. Interim housing will be next big issue. Special needs populations will continue to be a focus. School support activities will be upcoming. Please report any areas that are unserved or underserved, especially in special situation areas such as elderly, farmworker populations, etc.

There is a tarp shortage nationally, so obtaining tarp materials is problematic. Tarps are manufactured overseas, Korea and China. Generators: Army Corps of Engineers is working a mission to get generators into remote areas still without power.

Power restoration: Palm Beach, Martin, Broward, Miami-Dade and Hendry counties are experiencing the highest percentages of power outage at this time (90 % or less).

Lee, Collier, Okeechobee, St. Lucie have 98% or more of their power restored.

Remainder of counties are at 98 % or greater power restoration.  

Shelters - 9 Counties have 17 Shelters with 1,560 inhabitants. 1 special needs shelter in operation . Meals - 141,460 served 10/29/05. Today ARC has 52 fixed feeding sites and 67 mobile units operational. TSA is operating 5 fixed feeding sites and 23 mobile units. The Southern Baptist Association is operating 17 Kitchens preparing meals for ARC and TSA.

POD’s distributing food that is shelf-stable, as there are no actual MRE’s available.

LSA in Lakeland is closing tomorrow, but LSA in Palm Beach will remain operational for extended period.

Halloween holiday today ; many communities have cancelled any trick or treating or related events due to hazards of debris, etc., others are planning safe activities.

3rd amendment has been made to disaster declaration. Also, DRC’s will be opening in Brevard, Indian River, Okeechobee.

ESF 15 working to provide technical assistance in disaster counties, managing Volunteer and Donations Hotline.

EOC operational hours will change to 7AM-7PM beginning tomorrow.
